Tom Quinn
'66 Ford Mustang Coupe

If you see me at a show, please don’t ask if I am going to
replace my six cylinder with a V-8.

Back in late 1968, my dad bought a '68 Coupe with a
6 cylinder that a guy bought for his daughter,
only she didn’t like it. He bought it on the spur of the
moment while on vacation. He made my mom drive all
6 kids home with her.

He took the car to Minnesota when he was transferred
and my 3 older siblings all drove it. At one point he
sold it to his boss. When I turned 16, he bought it back
and sold it to me for $400.

I had to have a race car. So, I went to a junkyard and
got a 302. It only lasted 30 days before blowing up.
The car was sold for parts.

Twelve years ago, my dad bought this car from a friend
of his. The friend bought it from a guy who bought it for
his daughter, only she didn’t like it. It has been garage
kept for 40 years and driven 71,000 miles
on clear days only.

When my parents decided to downsize, my sibling
got the glassware and I got the car. I got the better deal. I
promised my dad the night before I got the car
“that I wasn’t go to screw this one up”.

I plan on making this one nice six. In honor of my dad,
who did not kick my butt when I destroyed the 1st one,
this one will stay a low milage, but driven,
matching numbers six.
