Gloria Vogt

August 2005

Gloria owns a matching numbers "1964 1/2" Mustang. All
Mustangs produced prior to the normal August start of the 1965 production
year run have been lovingly given the "1964 1/2" moniker.

This particular coupe rolled off the Dearborn, Michigan assembly line on June 20, 1964,
a mere 3 1/2 months after the very first Mustang rolled off. Only 92,705
version 1 coupes were produced. Ours came with an array of optional equipment
including, 289 V-8 engine (210 HP), 4-V carburetor, automatic transmission, power
steering, air conditioning, white vinyl roof, and black vinyl and cloth interior.
The vinyl and cloth seats were discontinued in August 1964. This car still has the
original generator. (Ford replaced the generator with an alternator as part of the 105
changes instituted in Version 2 in August. Back-up lights and the Pony interior
option became available after August 1964.) The original Cascade Green color was
also only available on the 64 1/2's. It too was discontinued in August of 1964.

The car looked good from 20-feet away. Up close, the flaws were obvious. In
October 2005, the car went into Hudson's Auto Body for a "face-lift". The car
looked worse when we pulled it back in July of 2007.

In November 2007, it went into a second shop for a COMPLETE make-over.
They took the car apart, pulled all the glass out, stripped off the vinyl
roof and started stripping the paint layers....

and discovered an array of problems. The quarter panels skin welds had never been
ground down but banged in and filled in with mud. There were holes in
the floor pans, wheel housings and trunk. Because of the extensive
number of paint coats and amount of damage, it was decided to
acid dip the doors, front fenders, hood and trunk lids,
install new quarter panels, floor pans, wheel tubs, trunk drop-offs,
and replace the vinyl roof, headliner, dashpad, carpeting, etc.
